The Challenge
Oriental’s digital transformation had made mobile and online banking more capable. Customers could check balances, transfer money, pay bills, and manage many routine needs without visiting a branch. The next challenge was making those platforms more useful between transactions.
Most banking tools report what has already happened. A customer checks a balance, completes a task, and leaves. The experience provides information but places the responsibility for interpreting it entirely on the customer. That limited Oriental’s ability to deliver personalized support through its digital channels.
The Insight
A digital banking experience could point out something useful: an unusual increase in spending, an opportunity to save, a recurring expense, or a practical next step for managing money more effectively. The bank already had a record of each customer’s financial activity, and that information could help the platform identify patterns and provide relevant guidance based on the customer’s own behavior.
The opportunity was to move Smart Banking from a digital ledger toward a more active form of financial support.
The Product Strategy
The AI capability was framed as personalized financial guidance inside the mobile and online banking experiences customers already used.
Insights would draw from individual financial records and behavior, then surface timely tips related to saving, spending, and money management.
The value proposition led with usefulness rather than the underlying technology. Customers did not need another technical feature to understand. They needed clear information connected to what was happening in their own finances.
This translated Oriental’s customer-centered strategy into product behavior. The platform could learn from the customer and adjust its support accordingly, reducing the need for customers to interpret every financial signal on their own.
Adoption and Communication
The launch narrative explained the benefit before introducing the technology. Messaging focused on the kinds of decisions the insights could support and connected the feature to Oriental’s broader role as a knowledgeable financial coach. The work also required a careful distinction between the established Smart Banking platform and the later AI guidance layer.
Earlier migration efforts for Smart Banking achieved:
28% adoption
128,000 active customer migrations
1.5 times more online transactions
4.3 out of 5 customer satisfaction
Those results demonstrate the reach and strength of the broader digital platform. They should not be attributed to the AI feature without separate adoption and behavioral data.
